SAN CARLOS, Calif. — March 22, 2011 — As semantic technologies have taken the world by storm, organizations have been searching for the right solutions to take advantage of the new opportunities they present. MarkLogic Corporation, the company revolutionizing the way organizations leverage unstructured information, today announced that Dr. Jim Hendler, one of the inventors of the semantic web, will keynote the MarkLogic 2011 User Conference along with Donald Feinberg, vice president and distinguished analyst, Gartner, and Bob Sutton, award winning author and Stanford University professor. For more information or to register for the summit, taking place April 26-29 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, CA, please visit http://www.marklogicevents.com/.
Dr. Hendler is the Tetherless World Professor of Computer and Cognitive Science and the Assistant Dean for Information Technology and Web Science at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). In addition to his academic career, Hendler is an “Internet Web Expert” for the U.S. Government, providing guidance to the Data.gov project, and former Chief Scientist of the information systems office at the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dr. Hendler will be joined by Dr. Li Ding, also from RPI, in the keynote session, “MarkLogic Semantic Technology Project with SPARQL/RDF” on Friday, April 29. The session will address the application of XQuery to Resource Description Framework (RDF), semantic queries, large-scale joins, and capabilities that they have demonstrated over two data challenges involving billions of semantic elements. The session will also discuss research by Dr. Hendler and Dr. Ding on connecting XML stores with semantic technologies, such as SPARQL. Dr. Hendler will be available to meet personally with User Conference attendees on Friday, April 29.
Dr. Ding is also a scientist in the Tetherless World at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is the technical lead of the TWC Linking Open Government Data project, which has helped Data.gov, the U.S. open government data web portal, in adopting semantic web technologies for data publishing and data integrations. Dr. Ding will host a birds-of-a-feather session on Thursday, April 28 during lunch at the User Conference.
“The application of MarkLogic Server as a semantically enabling platform introduces a game-changing cross-over technology with the potential to harmonize the XML and RDF communities,” said Dr. Hendler. “By specializing in unstructured information, MarkLogic Server enables customers to do some very innovative things around semantic information that wouldn’t be possible with traditional relational technologies. Dr. Li Ding and I are thrilled to be speaking on how organizations can apply these concepts to improve their business.”
The conference sponsors include platinum sponsor Avalon Consulting, LLC; gold sponsors Cognizant, Innodata Isogen, Infosys, and Virtusa; silver sponsors iFactory, Janya, Antenna House, TEMIS, HTC Global Services, Applied Relevance, Typefi, and Data Conversion Laboratory, Inc.; bronze sponsor Really Strategies; and additional sponsors Flatirons Solutions, ISYS, and Planman.
