Session to Focus on How MarkLogic Helps Organizations Achieve Digital Transformation

SAN CARLOS, Calif. — Sept. 29, 2010 — Publishers looking for ways to up their game as the way we read books, gather content, and share information has forever changed in the age of the media’s digital transformation need look no further than MarkLogic and the Frankfurt Book Fair 2010. MarkLogic Corporation, the company revolutionizing the way organizations leverage unstructured information, today announced that it is sponsoring the world-renowned publishing industry event and will also present the session “Digital Transformation with MarkLogic Server” as part of the Frankfurt Book Fair’s professional program.

The Frankfurt Book Fair will take place on October 6-10, 2010 at Messegelände Frankfurt, the world’s largest trade fair organizer with its own exhibition grounds. MarkLogic’s session, “Digital Transformation with MarkLogic Server,” will be held on Friday, October 8 from 4:45 – 5:15 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST) at the Information Management Hot Spot, exhibition site Hall 4.2, P451. The session will be presented by Matt Turner, principal technologist, MarkLogic, and, Seth Shearer, director of media solutions, MarkLogic.

Digitization in the book trade is one of the main topics of this year’s program. As part of the theme “Best Practice – New Ideas,” MarkLogic’s presentation will focus on how today’s leading publishers are using MarkLogic to speed the creation of new information products. Attendees will learn how MarkLogic can help publishers create innovative new tools and products to streamline streamline workflows, aggregate content, syndicate and deliver content and power mobile and digital products.  The session will showcase cutting-edge products from publishers such as McGraw-Hill, Springer, Simon & Schuster, Oxford University Press and more.

Turner leads the design and development of information applications for customers including Simon & Schuster, McGraw-Hill Education, Cengage Learning, Ingram Digital, and Elsevier. He has authored numerous articles on XML and content creation, management, search and delivery, and has spoken at several events including SIIA, ASIDIC, XML conferences, and Seybold Seminars.

Shearer is responsible for the support and success of MarkLogic’s customers in the media business, including the creation of innovative business models, adapting to changing market demands, and meeting the demands of evolving users. He has helped customers such as Pearson Education, Thomson Reuters, Xplana, and John Wiley & Sons, Inc. rapidly innovate and has spoken at conferences such as the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) and Professional Scholarly Publishing (PSP), among others. Prior to joining MarkLogic, he held senior systems engineering positions at Autonomy and Verity.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is a meeting place for the industry’s experts. Be they publishers, booksellers, agents, film producers or authors – each year in October, they all come together and create something new. According to the event website, the Frankfurt Book Fair is the most important marketplace for books, media, rights and licenses worldwide. More than 7,300 exhibitors from 100 countries, 299,000 visitors and over 10,000 journalists are expected to attend.
