SAN CARLOS, Calif. – October 7, 2008 – MarkLogic Corporation, a leading provider of infrastructure software for information applications, today announced the launch of the Open Enrichment Framework, an initiative created to speed integration with third-party entity extraction engines and other content enrichment tools. In addition, several partners have already completed integration using the framework and will provide pre-built pipelines that deliver out-of-the-box integration with advanced entity extraction engine technologies. Pipelines that will be available with MarkLogic Server 4.0, also announced today, include: Access Innovations’ Data Harmony, Semantex™ by Janya and TEMIS’ Luxid®.

Increasingly, organizations aim to unlock greater value from their unstructured content through the use of entity extraction technologies. The new Open Enrichment Framework simplifies the integration of third-party solutions, saving time and reducing technical complexity. In conjunction with the new MarkLogic 4.0 release also announced today, companies can better target delivery of content based on the structure added through these tools. Customers can now improve their search and discovery functionality by providing more focused search on the added structure, and explore content interactively using analytics driven by the entity markup.

“By enhancing MarkLogic Server with our powerful suite of Data Harmony products, we’ve found that organizations can expect to reduce the time to conduct individual queries by more than 50 percent and achieve seven-fold productivity increases,” said Marjorie Hlava, president of Access Innovations, Inc., which offers an extensive line of content facilitation products and services for industry, medical institutions, academic institutions and government agencies. “This results in a higher degree of user satisfaction and search effectiveness. We’re delighted to be teaming with MarkLogic to provide this powerful solution for customers.”

According to Dr. Rohini Srihari, CEO of Janya, which delivers products and services to support information discovery from unstructured and semi-structured data, “Janya is looking forward to participating in the Open Enrichment Framework program and anticipates that the pipeline to our enterprise-class Semantex platform will provide customers access to deeper information extraction that goes beyond entities to include relationships and events, thereby enabling unstructured data to be fully exploited. Because our XML output reflects the rich features assigned to elements of the text based on syntactic and semantic knowledge, we think Semantex is the perfect complement to MarkLogic’s XML-based content platform.”

“TEMIS is proud to be one of the first MarkLogic partners to join the Open Enrichment Framework and make its award-winning content enrichment service Luxid® available to the MarkLogic Server user community,” said Eric Bregand, CEO of TEMIS, a leading provider of corporate text mining and text analytics software solutions for the enterprise. “By leveraging Luxid® Skill Cartridge library, our package of annotators, users will be able to build more powerful queries using semantic information directly identified, extracted and normalized from their content. This seamless integration clearly contributes to the creation of smarter, more intuitive information products.”

“Working closely with customers to build next-generation content applications, we’ve discovered tremendous synergies with entity extraction technologies that are highly specialized for particular knowledge domains and languages,” said Jason Monberg, vice president of product management for MarkLogic Corporation. “The Open Enrichment Framework lets organizations take advantage of best-in-class entity extraction solutions, helping them generate the maximum value from their content.”
