San Carlos, Calif. – June 2, 2015 – MarkLogic Corporation, the leading Enterprise NoSQL database platform provider, today announced that NBC Entertainment’s (NBC) wildly popular and upgraded SNL app and SNL 40 website are powered by the MarkLogic® Enterprise NoSQL database platform. Already available on iPhone® and streaming 100 million videos since February, NBC recently broadened SNL’s reach by launching the app for Android-powered devices and iPads®.
Additionally, NBC incorporated fan requests for new segments, full episodes from the current season and more. SNL created the revenue-driving app in time to coincide with the SNL 40th Anniversary Live show, making 5,500 sketches available from 40 years of television in a customized experience for anyone with a mobile device, anywhere, at anytime.

The SNL app is a groundbreaking delivery of a full catalog of four decades of sketches and performances, in addition to never-before-seen videos. NBC created smart content based on MarkLogic’s Semantics and search, allowing the team to integrate, manage and search a wide range of data (scenes, characters, guest stars, etc.) and further enrich the content with user preferences and actions that grows along with the user base. MarkLogic’s metadata and Semantics automatically and accurately queues video recommendations based on users’ previous activities. It also discovers and recommends additional content based on users’ experiences. Additionally, NBC created a dynamic, cloud-based information delivery platform on MarkLogic that can easily import new full episodes from the current season as well as remastered library sketches with improved picture quality.
