Progress Acquires MarkLogic! Learn More

SAN CARLOS, Calif. – March 25, 2009 – MarkLogic Corporation, a leading provider of infrastructure software for information applications, today announced that Kelly Stirman, director of business development, will participate in the session “How to Know When You Need an XML Content Platform: Thoughts from a Veteran DBA” at the AIIM International Exposition and Conference to be held March 30-April 2, 2009 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA. Also featured will be Mike Bowers, principal database engineer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This session will explore challenges that frequently plague large-scale content application initiatives, such as when it makes sense to put XML in a relational database, and when to place relational data in an XML server. Stirman and Bowers will provide helpful advice on the pros and cons of structuring XML documents in different XML formats such as XHTML, DITA, DOCBOOK, and custom schemas. Bowers will provide an in-depth discussion of the problems encountered and lessons learned from projects that use both a relational database and XML server at the LDS Church.

The AIIM International Exposition and Conference is focused on the latest information management trends, successes and technologies, featuring 19 tracks and more than 130 conference sessions, 100 real-world case studies, and 200 information management technology vendors on the Expo floor. Designed to bring together information management professionals, the conference offers AIIM-produced practitioner-level pre conference workshops as well as the opportunity to gain peer-to-peer knowledge through networking with industry experts. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about content management technologies and strategies in areas such as compliance, risk management and security, information classification & taxonomies, litigation and discovery, web content management and portals and IT management.

Kelly Stirman is the director of business development at MarkLogic, working with field teams throughout the company to define solutions and marketing strategy for financial services, aviation, publishing, and healthcare. Prior to joining MarkLogic, he spent more than a decade working in enterprise software and management consulting with companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, GE Capital, and PeopleSoft.

For 20 years Mike Bowers has been a database architect, developer, administrator, and consultant for Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server at Mainline Information Systems, Mitsubishi Silicon America, Systems Management Services, Freightliner, and currently at the LDS Church.
