SAN CARLOS, Calif. — January 11, 2011 — MarkLogic Corporation, the company revolutionizing the way organizations leverage unstructured information, today announced that the company has entered into a strategic SaaS and OEM agreement with Laserwords, creator of educational, print, and media materials for students and teachers. As part of the agreement, Laserwords will OEM MarkLogic Server and potentially provide the product as a software-as-service (SaaS) offering to its customer base.
Laserwords is one of the oldest and most successful independent prepress companies in the world. The partnership agreement with MarkLogic means Laserwords will OEM MarkLogic Server, a purpose-built database for unstructured information, as part of its solutions for content creation and multichannel publishing, and for archival and repurposing. Integrated Publishing Framework (IPF) from Laserwords is a comprehensive, modular publishing solution for all market verticals that enables simultaneous creation of print and digital content and dynamic publishing to multiple media streams. System for Archiving and Retrieval (SAR) from Laserwords is a complete archival and repurposing solution that combines a discovery and XML conversion service to standardize archived content with a system to organize, manage, and repurpose archives.
“MarkLogic is very publishing focused and they were the obvious choice for us in terms of a strategic technology partnership,” said Michael O’Brien, president, Laserwords. “XML is the language of the publishing world, and if not for MarkLogic, we would be forced to try to use a relational database. If you go that route, you end up with fragments. MarkLogic stores XML as a whole. It’s fast, searchable, and the right database for us.”
MarkLogic is helping many of today’s leading publishers speed the creation of new information products using MarkLogic Server. Unstructured information makes up 70 percent of the information inside an organization, and media companies and publishers feel this dynamic directly on a daily basis. These companies have turned to MarkLogic to handle their minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour constant streams of content so that it can be made available via the most popular applications and content delivery devices, from smart phones to Kindles.
“We are pleased to have Laserwords join MarkLogic’s leading partner program,” said Mark Tice, executive vice president of worldwide sales, MarkLogic. “MarkLogic partners with a wide range of industry-leading technology, OEM, and service providers to better help organizations solve critical business issues. Our partners encompass a broad spectrum of industry expertise, ensuring that customers benefit from the best content management solutions and technologies available today.”
