Introducing MarkLogic Server 4.0

The best place to put XML just got better…

MarkLogic Server 4.0 breaks new ground and sets a new standard for XML servers. The extensive additional functionality empowers organizations to imagine fresh ways to leverage information by building new classes of XML-based applications not possible with other XML servers. Organizations can do more with their content than ever before, addressing customer needs with better search and navigation, delivering content with greater context, keeping users in touch with relevant content, and providing deeper analysis. MarkLogic Server 4.0 also includes new and updated capabilities for administrators, including enhanced security auditing, scheduled backups, and scripted administration.

New features in MarkLogic Server 4.0 include:

    • Geospatial – Enable high-performance geospatial queries against massive amounts of content, leveraging location information for improved contextual search and analytics.
    • Entity enrichment – Automatically analyze information to identify people, places and things and then mark them up directly inline in your content. Extract valuable information and metadata that can be used to improve search, navigation and analytics for users.
    • Alerting – Let users define rules to notify them and push content directly to their device of choice, whenever it matches their profile. Speed delivery of relevant content by automatically monitoring new content. For example, automatic alerts can be based on keywords, entities, geographic locations, or combinations of all three.
    • Modular documents – Build new documents from parts of other documents using XInclude and XPointer, efficiently re-using information and improving control over vital content.
    • XQuery 1.0 support – MarkLogic Server fully supports the W3C XQuery 1.0 standard. To simplify migration MarkLogic Server also supports an older XQuery implementation for backwards compatibility with version 3.2, preserving users’ investment in XQuery code.
    • Administration – Choose between browser-based administration and scriptable administration, making management of a MarkLogic Server deployment even easier than before.
    • High availability – High availability has been extended to include failover of a database so that content stays available even when a node in a cluster fails.
    • Bucketing – The faceting functionality has been enhanced to include bucketing, which groups search results at query time to match business requirements. Users can more easily and logically navigate through large result sets because they are grouped together by business meaning.
    • Auditing – Record events to a log file within MarkLogic Server, including: user logins, document permission changes, server startup and shutdown, and others. Store and analyze the log file later to understand user behavior and system activity.
    • Co-occurrence analysis – Find and count pairs of entities in content, providing real-time discovery of relationships within your information. Explore pairs of entities (e.g. drug-symptom, person-place etc.) to get a better understanding and greater insight into information.
