1:30pm - 2:10pm ISR Information Sharing in Support of the Warfighter
Lt Col Thomas Tschuor, Director, Distributed Common Ground/Surface System (DCGS) Multi-Service Execution Team (MET) Office (DMO) Intelligence and Special Programs Division, Hanscom AFB

ISR Information Sharing in Support of the Warfighter

The Distributed Common Ground/Surface System (DCGS) enterprise established a baseline infrastructure and common services among the seven DCGS Programs of Record called the DCGS Integration Backbone (DIB). The DIB, which embraces enterprise services and standards that serve as the foundation for the interoperability of DCGS Programs of Record, is leveraged as the data layer for the Defense Intelligence Information Enterprise (DI2E). The DIB facilitates the sharing of Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) information across DCGS, the Joint Intelligence Operations Centers (JIOCs) and the Intelligence Community, as well as coalition partners. Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Tschuor, DMO Director (DCGS Multi-Service Execution Team Office) will talk about today's challenges for managing large, unpredictable, unstructured, and mixed schema sources and the effect this changing landscape has on the DIB. Lt Col Tschuor will speak to the role of the DMO in setting the appropriate architecture to ensure the optimization of ISR data sharing. He will then discuss the technologies that support the infrastructure, and review the recent conformance and performance testing results, conducted by the DMO, on DIB Metadata Catalogs.

Building Out Your Cloud-Ready Solutions
Clark Richey, Federal Principal Technologist, MarkLogic

Building Out Your Cloud-Ready Solutions

As part of on-going efforts to minimize IT costs while simultaneously solving more and more difficult problems, we continue to look to cloud-based deployments. Technologies for virtualization, system monitoring, automated configuration, and MapReduce/Hadoop processing are key components, but there's more to consider. This session explores how MarkLogic, as the core technology of your cloud deployments, ensures that the solutions we are building for tomorrow can be readily deployed into the cloud today.

If you've ever wondered what's going on inside MarkLogic software, these talks are for you. Join principal technologist Jason Hunter as he explains, in human terms, the core concepts and features of MarkLogic, and how it differs from traditional search and database products. In this first of a two part talk on indexing, Jason explains the architecture of MarkLogic's universal indexes and range indexes.

2:20pm - 3:00pm Real Time Intelligence at the Department of Transportation
Andy Walker, CEO, 42Six Solutions

Real Time Intelligence at the Department of Transportation

Blue Mercury is a next generation security application at the U.S. Department of Transportation where users rely on the tool for real-time analysis of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), crime reports and relevant news feeds. Blue Mercury incorporates incoming data from several sources, analyzes the information, and notifies analysts and security officers when a link is found between seemingly unrelated intelligence. Notification features rely on user-friendly collaborative features reminiscent of social media.

Andy Walker, CEO, 42Six Solutions will guide the audience through a demonstration of Blue Mercury in action while discussing the benefits to the user, the impact on the broader mission of securing America's transportation systems and the speed with which 42Six Solutions developed the dynamic solution on MarkLogic.

Enterprise Data Layers: the Platform for Big Data Analytics
Chris Biow, Public Sector CTO, MarkLogic

Enterprise Data Layers: the Platform for Big Data Analytics

If we want to create analytic capabilities and enable sharing of large and complex enterprise data, our first challenge is bringing it together with agility and speed. Agility allows us to span and integrate the various silos and sources of information in a consistent way, and speed supports the fast, interactive querying needed for effective Big Data analysis. We will explore the enhanced mission capabilities of a MarkLogic-based Data Layer, including metadata catalogs, intelligence repositories, decision support, and connection with other analytic engines.

3:30pm - 4:10pm Integrating Land Use Data to Better Serve Citizens, Economic Development, and Public Servants
Woodrow Bellamy, Fairfax County Government, Virginia

Integrating Land Use Data to Better Serve Citizens, Economic Development, and Public Servants

Fairfax County, Virginia is one of the largest local governments in the nation. The county is a critical economic engine that attracts new businesses and residents while serving its stakeholders. Fairfax County is integrating its land use data from several sources including relational databases, mainframe systems, GIS resources, and thousands of documents and CAD drawings. Bringing this data together in real time will answer questions about zoning changes, location identification for retailers, and home history inquiries for families considering a new home. This solution will dramatically reduce the county's labor effort while giving it a competitive edge for prospective residents.

Woodrow Bellamy, Branch Chief for the Land Use team within Fairfax County's Department of Information Technology, will share insights on how the county is utilizing MarkLogic to build a solution for stakeholders in less than a year.

Navigating Big Data with Semantic Technology
Gary Katz, Senior Consultant, MarkLogic

Navigating Big Data with Semantic Technology

MarkLogic Corporation has been funding research that explores semantic tuple storage and querying using an XML tuple model. By representing tuples as XML documents, MarkLogic has been able to efficiently store and query against large tuple sets, as demonstrated in both the Billion Triple Challenge and the Lehigh University Benchmark. In this session you will learn about current efforts in XML-based representations with semantic querying, as well as MarkLogic-funded research (by Professor Jim Hendler and Dr. Li Ding) on connecting XML stores to semantic technologies via automated SPARQL to XQuery translation.

Adding Visualizations to Mission-Critical Analyses
Jose Morales, Sr. Technical Consultant, MarkLogic

Adding Visualizations to Mission-Critical Analyses

Data visualization and analytics continue to evolve to further enable the understanding of complex data sets. But today's mission faces the growing challenge of how to apply visualization tools—designed for a specific, predictable data format—over high volumes of diverse data formats. This session explores how MarkLogic uniquely enables the visualization of Big Data analytics by integrating large volumes of data, applying fast built-in analytics, and then transforming, filtering, and integrating data into formats visualization tools can handle. With quick integration of numerous data sources, analysts get outputs that are more relevant and actionable. The discussion will include examples of visualization techniques uniquely enabled by MarkLogic.
