Gary brings an exceptional background that includes more than two decades of successful leadership in enterprise software. Gary most recently was the CEO and president at eMeter, which provides smart grid management software for electric, gas, and water utilities. eMeter was recently acquired by Siemens Corporation. Gary was also the former vice chair and president of Symantec Corporation, where he led the company’s line of business organizations and the company’s corporate development efforts. Gary joined Symantec through the company’s merger with Veritas Software where he was the chairman and CEO. Before joining Veritas, Gary held senior executive positions at Oracle. During his 14-year career at Oracle, Gary led Oracle’s database business, worldwide marketing, support, education, and alliance organizations, and was responsible for mergers and acquisitions.

Gary earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, where he currently serves on the President’s Cabinet and the Board of the Cal Poly Foundation.

Jon is an industry expert in data management and software development, having worked at companies that include Oracle, Hewlett Packard (EDS), Northrop Grumman, and Sprint/Nextel. At Oracle, Jon led a team that developed revolutionary, secure, text analytical database architectures adopted by governments, aerospace suppliers, and financial services companies. Prior to that, he was instrumental in transforming Nextel’s (now Sprint’s) wireless application infrastructure. Jon has also worked on scores of US and UK Government programs in the capacities of systems architect and software developer.

Jon holds a Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance from East Carolina University.

 

David Gorbet

David Gorbet

David brings two decades of experience bringing to market some of the highest-volume applications and enterprise software in the world. David has shipped dozens of releases of business and consumer applications, server products and services ranging from open source to large-scale online services for businesses, and twice has helped start and grow billion-dollar software products. Prior to MarkLogic, David helped pioneer Microsoft’s business online services strategy by founding and leading the SharePoint Online team. In addition to SharePoint Online, David has held a number of positions at Microsoft and elsewhere with a number of products, including Microsoft Office, Extricity B2Bi server software, and numerous incubation products.

David holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering with an additional major in Psychology from the University of Waterloo, and an MBA from the University of Washington Foster School of Business.

 

Christopher Lindblad

Chris had the overall responsibility for the creation of Ultraseek Server, including the architecture, design, and development. Prior to Infoseek, he pursued post-doctoral research in high-speed networks and real-time video processing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). During his research tenure at MIT, Chris authored over 15 publications in internet and multi-media technologies.

Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and computer science from the California Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in computer science from MIT.

 

Pete Norman

Peter S. Norman
Chief Financial Officer

Pete comes from Chordiant Software, where he served as vice president and CFO, re-engineering the company’s back office operations. Prior to Chordiant, Pete spent 12 years in the audit practice of KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, working with IPO and M&A activities for venture-backed software companies. Pete has held several senior financial and management positions at privately held technology companies. Read More »

Joe brings over three decades of experience as both an engineer and a leader. He has personally contributed to several game changing initiatives including the first personal computer at Xerox, the rise of RDBMS in the early days of Oracle, and the desktop publishing revolution at Adobe. In addition to his individual contributions, Joe has been a leader at companies ranging from small startups to the Fortune 500. Read More »

Most recently, Joe established Neustar Labs which is responsible for creating strategies, technologies, and services that enable entirely new markets. Prior to that, Joe held a number of leadership roles at Symantec and Veritas Software including VP of Strategy, VP of Global Research, and CTO of the $2B Data Center Management business.

Joe’s technical interests include system software, knowledge representation, and rights management. He has over 10 issued patents with others pending. Joe earned simultaneous Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics in 1981 from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo where he is a member of the Computer Science Advisory Board.

 

David Ponzini

Dave brings over 25 years of sales, finance, and corporate development experience to MarkLogic. Prior to MarkLogic, Dave served as vice president of corporate and business development at Verity where he was responsible for the acquisition and integration of four companies eventually leading to the sale of the company to Autonomy in 2005. Dave has held a number of financial management positions at leading Silicon Valley companies including Inktomi, Sun Microsystems, PeopleSoft, and Vanstar. While at Vanstar he was part of the team that grew sales from $200M to $1.8B and was key to taking the company public in 1996.

Dave holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from San Jose State University and master’s degree in business administration from Saint Mary’s College.

 

Robert Roepke

Bob joined MarkLogic from Chordiant Software, where he served as vice president, business planning & analysis and corporate treasurer. He has also served as vice president of operations finance at Yahoo! and vice president, corporate financial planning & analysis and treasurer at Verity. Bob’s extensive history in key financial management roles extends into noteworthy companies including PDI/DreamWorks, PaineWebber Inc., The Walt Disney Company, United Parcel Service, and IBM Corporation.

Bob holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and a master of business administration degree from The Anderson School at UCLA.

Prior to Marklogic, Michaline was vice president of marketing at eMeter, where she played a strategic role in making the company the leading meter data management platform for the utility industry. She was also a key member of the team that successfully transitioned the company after it was acquired by Siemens. She joined eMeter from Serena Software, where she led global online and field marketing. She began her software industry experience at Oracle and Veritas, where she ran global event marketing teams.

Michaline holds a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Northwestern University, and is a professionally trained pastry chef.

 

Elisa Smith

Elisa is responsible for MarkLogic’s global legal affairs as General Counsel and Assistant Secretary. Elisa’s legal career spans more than 25 years and she has served as a law firm partner as well as head of an in house legal and human resources department. Her areas of expertise include corporate, financing and intellectual property matters as well as commercial transactions. Read More »

Prior to joining MarkLogic, Elisa was General Counsel and Secretary of eMeter Corporation, an enterprise software company. Elisa advised eMeter from its initial start-up phase through its merger with Siemens. Prior to eMeter, Elisa was a corporate partner at Pillsbury Winthrop LLP and Sideman and Bancroft LLP. Elisa earned her bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego and her JD from Santa Clara University School of Law.

Tom Banahan

Tom is a Managing Director of Tenaya Capital. He initially joined the predecessor to Tenaya (Lehman Brothers Venture Partners) in 1999, and co-founded Tenaya in 2009. Previously, Tom spent 20 years working as an operational manager in the technology industry. Most recently, he was the vice president of business development for Marimba. Tom joined Marimba as the 14th employee and was involved in all areas of the company’s growth through its successful public offering in April 1999. Prior to Marimba, Tom was the vice president of worldwide sales for Spyglass. He joined Spyglass as the 23rd employee and was instrumental in helping the company deliver a string of 12 consecutive profitable quarters that positioned Spyglass as the first Internet company to access the public equity markets in June 1995. Tom started his career in the sales organization at IBM where he spent seven years. Tom holds a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

 

Pat Grady

A Wyoming native, Pat’s first job was putting roofs on houses, but he didn’t truly appreciate what it means to be a builder until he shared in the ups & downs of creating a company. Since joining Sequoia Capital in 2007, Pat has been singularly focused on supporting the next generation of great technology entrepreneurs. He gravitates toward people with the courage to bulldoze incumbents (ServiceNow, Okta, Birst, Qualtrics) and the audacity to break new ground (Jive, HubSpot, Achievers, Medallia). Pat is a casual cyclist (road or mountain), an enthusiastic snow bum (one plank or two), and a big believer in the renaissance of the enterprise. Prior to Sequoia, Pat was an inside salesman, an investor in a variety of sectors, and an undergrad at Boston College.

 

Mark Kvamme

Mark Kvamme focuses on services and software investments. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital in 1999, Mark was chairman of USWeb/CKS and chairman and chief executive officer of CKS Group prior to its merger with USWeb. Earlier in his career Mark was a director of international marketing for Wyse Technology, the president and chief executive officer of International Solutions, and a founding member of Apple France. Mark has a bachelor’s degree in French economics and literature from the University of California at Berkeley.

 

Thomas Weatherford

Thomas Weatherford has over 35 years of experience in senior financial positions for global technology companies. Thom retired in 2003 as executive vice president and chief financial officer of business intelligence software leader Business Objects S.A., having held that position since 1997. He previously held senior financial positions at NETCOM On–Line Communication Services, Logitech, Texas Instruments, Schlumberger, and Tandem Computers in the US, Europe, and Japan. In addition to MarkLogic, Thom currently serves on the boards of Mellanox, Tesco Corporation, and several other private companies. He also serves on the boards of Spansion and Guidewire, both public companies. He holds a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Houston.
